Alliance League Org Spotlight: Loyola Gaming Esports

From being an organization struggling to find its footing just a year ago, LG Esports has seen an unprecedented resurgence and is now considered one of the fastest growing communities in collegiate esports.

The organization has its roots in the Ateneo High School League of Legends community as early as 2013, but only rebranded as LG Esports in 2019 after partnering up with the Loyola Videogame League.

As of February of this year, they were in talks with the Department of Information Systems and Computer Science (DISCS) regarding a partnership and endorsement of the organization.

“Hopefully moving forward, the DISCS supports our organization's future endeavors in becoming one of the trailblazers of collegiate esports in the country,” says Chief Gaming Officer Kenneth Ian Gerard Alog.

A stalwart of the Ateneo esports scene, Alog has competed in LoL Collegiate League 2017 Summer, as well as a number of AcadArena tournaments in the past. Despite not placing far in any of his past tournaments, he’s confident his team can come up with something special in the upcoming Alliance League.

“Joining the Alliance was a great opportunity for us to learn from experts in the collegiate esports industry,” he says. “EAA has been very supportive with our initiatives since 2018 when we weren't even a fully-fledged organization yet.”

One of these initiatives is LG Esports’ flagship event, the End of Semester Invitational, which was first held late last year. They wrapped up the second edition of the event last May, and had ten different Ateneo organizations competing for the title.

“We want LG to be the home of gaming on our campus,” Alog shares. “Not just because of the competitive nature, but simply because it has grown as the community that caters to everyone who plays games.”

Backed by their rapidly growing local community, the sky’s the limit for LG Esports in the upcoming AcadArena Alliance League.
