Red Spartans from Batangas State University clinched the 1st Runner-up spot at the PVP Esports Regional Championship Campus: PUBGM last November 14 with 69 total points. They took home more than Php 60, 000 of cash prize and PUBGM Unknown Cash after their solid performance against 15 other campus teams across Southeast Asia.
Taking the SEA campus esports by storm
Team captain, Reyniel Eustaquio (REDopti), mentioned that the whole team never expected to get qualified or place with a high rank in the tournament. Considering that the team was new and it was their first international tournament, it made them nervous. But at the same time, they were excited for the opportunity to play against strong opponents.
“We might be new but we’re excited and ready to devour our enemies on the battlefield.”
With 5 map rotations to play, Red Spartans were neck to neck with two Singaporean teams, Gunadarma Esports Grimz and Politeknik Negeri Malang. They left a lot of their competitors in the dust as they played strongly in each map.
The team managed to overtake Politeknik Negeri Malang by a hair. However, Gunadarma Esports Grimz got the best of them, snatching the crown with 86 points.
From winning the National Campus Open: PUBGM, the Red Spartan players were a force to be reckoned with. But they did not do it alone as they represented the Philippines together with their fellow NCO top placers, IDCians (Iloilo Doctor’s College), Arellano Elite (Arellano University Jose Abad Santos) and Snow and Friends (Tarlac State University).
Batangas State University’s Red Spartans is composed of team captain, Reyniel “REDopti” Eustaquio, Mark Jonathan Arenas (REDcrush), Klint Loza (REDklintz), Daeronne Limbo (REDdaeronne) and Zeus Alexie Malaluan (REDlexi).
