We’ve seen JJ-kun in many esports events way back. He was a caster for Tekken 7 in The Nationals, an influencer and content creator for Bayani and MSI, and most notably, the head administrator of the PKMN-ph community.
He’s been doing all of this while pursuing a degree in Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English at the De La Salle University-Dasmarinas.
“As a full-time student, I’ve been told a lot of times to prioritize my studies over video games. I just balanced both,” he said looking back. He used his earnings in these gigs to buy himself a motorcycle to ease his commutes.
“I know that I wouldn't be a pro player in any game I play (I tried, okay?), but I still want to be part of the esports industry so I took on a different path...which made me the commentator and organizer that I am now.”
With the new norm, JJ-kun feels strongly about adapting new learning opportunities for the youth. “We have to think about students whose skills and abilities lie outside traditional sports. Through AcadArena, this has been made possible.”
True to the path of JJ-kun, he had several gigs even for AcadArena’s campus convention at the FEU-Institute of Technology gymnasium, Nexus Expo, back in December 2019.
“When I saw Nexus in FIT, there's only one thing that has been in my mind: I want to be a part of this. I want to keep being a part of this. I want to be a part of this to give opportunities to those who are not given opportunities in their own schools to shine in what they do best.”
JJ-kun dreams of putting up a big esports event in his own campus in DLSU-Dasma but with more pressing matters in the education sector that just has to wait.
